The OpenNet Initiative is a collaborative partnership of three institutions: the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto; the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University; and the SecDev Group (Ottawa).
The OpenNet Initiative investigates and analyzes Internet filtering and surveillance practices in a credible and non-partisan fashion. Our aim is to inform better public policy and advocacy work in this area through credible evidence-based research. The OpenNet Initiative actively supports the work of local researchers around the world and actively operates with our sister projects, OpenNet Asia and OpenNet Eurasia.
The OpenNet Initiative is supported by a generous grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The publication of Access Controlled was made possible through support from Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
